Painted Bamboo
Bambusa Vulgaris Vittata

With a wide spreading rhizome structure, a large area is required for this sunny bamboo.  Wide yellow poles have a green striping, with a bending nature, and are 75 mm plus in diameter.  Its not a native but its our national colours !

Whistling wind makes it vibrate with a hollow sound.  Fast growing/drought/sand tolerant. Dwarf by cultivating in a pot or planter.  Lovely to light up a dark spot or provide a huge screen/windbarrier. This awesome bamboo can grow to be tall and 4-5 metres around - not recommended for suburban gardens
